Each year, BMO brings together its marketing team from across Canada for an annual all-hands meeting. Branding Photo Shoots for Small Businesses

Allure Hair and Makeup, a leading mobile bridal hair and makeup company from Niagara needed a new set of branding images for their website and social media profiles. They wanted to have some headshots for their team along with some lifestyle and group shot photography. Branding Photo Shoot: Planning Stage
It was such a pleasure to serve the team at Allure Hair and Makeup!
In the weeks leading up to their photo shoot, we collaborated ideas with Allure on a shared Pinterest board. The main goal of the planning stage was to come up with a vision for the shoot. What would Allure’s brand colours be? Would we aim for light and airy shots, or dark and dramatic?
In the end, Allure went with a blush pink and beige colour palette with both light scenes and a dark and dramatic scene. Allure brought wardrobes to suit both scenes.
Behind the Scenes
Allure is a mobile bridal hair and makeup company, based out of Niagara, Ontario. Their team did their own hair and makeup at the studio before the shoot.
As each person finished getting ready, our studio team started photographing on the first scene. As we were photographing each person, the rest of the team could watch the images coming through on our iPad viewing gallery. It’s so great to have a group of friends together in the studio—everyone was encouraging each other as they saw the images coming in.
Look #1: Bright and Modern
The first look we achieved was a bright, modern scene with soft fabrics, pampas grass, and natural light (though we created the light using studio strobes, not natural light!).
We made sure the cuddle chair from Structube was full of soft pillows to create this warm lifestyle shot for each of the the ladies from Allure.
Look #2: Blush Pinks
For the next set, we photographed the team’s headshots on a custom-painted backdrop we built. which matched the blush-pink colour Allure chose in the planning process.
The paint colour we chose was Gray Ashlar by Behr.
For this look, we used the natural light coming in from the studio window with some enhancements from our studio strobes….and a fan!
Look #3: Dark and Dramatic
For the final look, we went in the opposite direction to create a high-contrast, black-on-black scene. For this look, we used the studio walls painted in Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore.
The sofa is the “Chameleon” from Structube. The thing that is incredible about this sofa is that the arms can move into any position you want. They’re not attached to the sofa base. It’s such a versatile piece of furniture for posing clients!
#4: Group Shots
For the past few years, our studio team has been creating composite group shots for small teams. To do this, we take shots of each individual person and then select the best shot of each person to stitch together in Photo Shop to create a composite group shot. This method ensures that everyone likes how they look in the group shot!
#5: Branded Product Shots
After the photo shoot was complete, Allure left us with a few bags of their products. They have a line of lip gloss and lip sticks that we wanted to photograph in a similar style to the branding photo shoot. We tried to keep the light and airy feeling of some of the first looks in the photo shoot. Here’s a sampling of the looks we achieved.

If possible, have a professional do your hair and makeup on the day of the photo shoot. Makeup stylists know how to pick the right colours for your complexion. Hair stylists will have those locks looking top notch. Not only will you feel like a million bucks, but that feeling can translate into confidence in front of the camera - because you look your best!
Tip #2: Bring lots of outfits
Your acting headshot portfolio needs to show a variety of looks, so bringing lots of wardrobe options to your photo shoot is essential. Bring colours that compliment your complexion, your hair colour, and your eye colour. If you have red hair, greens and blues are going to make your red hair pop! If you have green eyes, incorporating green somehow into your wardrobe will draw out that amazing colour in your eyes!
You may love how your plaid sweater feels, but it may not be a flattering option that photographs well for your headshots. Try to stick to solid colours so nothing distracts from the most important part of the photo - your face. Bring lots of options so that you’re not stuck with just one look. When you contact us and let us know how many people need headshots, we’ll give you a quote with no hidden fees. You’ll know upfront exactly how much it will cost to create the images you’re looking for. If you don’t know exactly how many people will be participating, that’s no problem! We’ll give you a base price, and a per person price, so nothing is a surprise. You can even use our company headshot price calculator to get an instant estimate right now!
Step 2: Pick Your Style
Once you’ve booked our company, we’ll send you an idea page with samples of company headshots including different backgrounds and colour ideas. You can choose the style that suites your company best. If you’ve seen a style on the internet that you like, just send us your inspiration photos, and our team is able to create a matching look for you. We’ll make sure that each headshot we provide for your company matches the style selected.
Step 3: Sign Up
Our team provides you with a custom page on our website. This page will have all the information your colleagues need to prepare for their headshots. Just forward the link to everyone being photographed, and each person can sign up for the headshot time slot that’s convenient for them.
Depending on your company’s schedule and the number of people being photographed, we can set up one headshot day, or multiple days. We’re there to serve you with the solution that works best for you!
Do you have people who will be away for each headshot day? That’s no problem! The missing people are invited to come to our Markham studio at a time that’s convenient for them. If they come anytime during the month after your headshot day, they’ll be included in the quantity group pricing provided in your quote.
Step 4: Headshot Day!
On headshot day, our team arrives early to set up our professional studio at your location. We bring the same set-up we use at our studio. Yes, it’s more gear than most photographers would bring, but our proven headshot method will give you the most flattering light and consistent results over hundreds of people. Headshots are our specialty!
Step 5: Pick Your Favourite Headshot
When each person visits us on headshot day, they’ll get to review all their images and choose their favourite on the spot. The favourite headshots all receive our professional retouching service, including blemish and stray hair removal, contouring, teeth whitening, and help with under-eye shadows. You can decide ahead of time how many headshots you’d like each person to choose with professional retouching.
It is our top priority to make sure everyone loves their headshots! That’s why we have each person review their headshots and pick favourites right away. If they don’t like anything we’ve taken, we’ll continue to shoot until we have a winning shot!
Step 6: Amazing Headshots — Organized, Retouched, and Delivered
Our team takes about 1-2 weeks to professionally retouch each chosen headshot. Once everything is complete, we’ll send you a link to your company’s private headshot gallery. Inside the gallery, you’ll see all your beautiful headshots organized and named to match each participant’s name. This makes file organization simple!
You’ll also see a folder with every headshot proof image (not retouched). If you’d like any additional headshots retouched, just pick them from that folder and let us know.

Vanity Fair Style Portrait Booth for Awards Gala: Toronto Four Seasons Hotel
Take a peak at the stunning event portraits at Bloom Burton’s 2022 Awards Gala! Fashioned and posed to imitate Vanity Fair’s style, guests felt like celebrities as our team pampered them with the ultimate photo experience!
Dressed in gowns and black tie tuxedos, guests came ready to walk the red carpet at Bloom Burton’s 2022 Awards Gala! Bright minds and achievements were celebrated on the stage, but also captured in our event portrait photo booth! Guests were treated to 5”x7” portraits of them together with their favourite colleagues, friends, and partners.
For this event, we brought four of our team members. One photographer was dedicated to creating Vanity Fair style posing; one was on camera, making sure the lighting and settings were perfect for each photo; one was on computer, providing quick edits and adjustments before sending the photos to the printer and custom slideshow on the large viewing screen. Our last team member made sure the prints were perfect and mounted in custom linen black photo folders, complete with Bloom Burton branding in gold embossed lettering.

Everyone wants to look their best in their professional headshots. With the editing tools available to photographers, the question comes up - how much retouching should a headshot receive?
It's no secret that we can take the average person and Photoshop them into an unrecognizable, fabricated super model. We can snip and tuck, liquify, contour, and remove or add just about anything to your image. But how much retouching is too much?
There is a fine line we walk every time we begin retouching your images. Below are a few headshots that we've retouched. The before image is straight out of camera with no retouching. The after image has One Tree Studio's retouching service applied.
Some photographers choose to take things too far - you've all seen images like this. The person looks like they have no pores, their pupils are glowing, and every line on their face as miraculously vanished. Imagine the shock when they show up for their job interview!

Adding or removing large portions of hair

Taking pieces from one photo and swapping it with pieces in another photo

Trade Show Headshots: Brand Marketing that Works!
Check out how Loblaws treated their employees to new professional headshots at a recent internal trade show. People were able to update their LinkedIn headshots and everyone was so excited to receive such a valuable gift!
Loblaws was holding an internal trade show for their own employees and was looking for something special to give everyone. They contacted us looking to create a great headshot experience that would help their team boost their professional image on the internal company intranet and on LinkedIn.
The ice-cream station was pretty popular, but so many people were super excited to see that they could receive valuable new headshots as a gift from their company!
Our team arrived early to set up in the trade show space and treated the Loblaws staff to a first-class headshot experience. After visiting our quick touch-up station to tame stray hairs and remove clothing lint, they had their headshots taken in our professional studio setup with Dave, one of our lead photographers.

Step 1: Schedule your headshot appointment.
We’ll send you all your booking information including tips on what to wear and what to expect at your photo shoot. Not sure what outfit(s) to wear? We’ve got you covered! Have a look at our Pinterest Board for ideas. You can bring several outfits to your appointment and we’ll help you decide.
Step 2: Come to the studio for your headshot appointment.
Our studio is conveniently located near 9th Line and Hwy 407, at 276 Copper Creek Dr. in Markham (Boxgrove). Free street parking is available on the north side of Copper Creek right in front of the studio.
During your appointment, you’ll have the opportunity to see your headshots several times and provide feedback. This process ensures that our team creates headshots you love! We’ve got a change room, lots of hair spray, lint rollers, drinks, and snacks. We want you to feel right at home!
Step 3: Pick your Favourite(s).
Once you’ve picked your favourites to be professionally retouched, our team will take care of creating a beautiful final product. We’ll deliver your retouched headshots back to you in 1-2 business days. In a rush? No problem! Just let us know.

What an adventure!
Our team has travelled to photograph lots of conferences and events, but this was our first trip to the west coast. Everywhere we looked, we wanted to snap pictures. Whistler, and really all of British Columbia, is absolutely breathtaking!
The masterminds behind all of the event planning and details were the professional planners at Hageman Events. Julie, Gloria, and Rebecca are the dream team that you need for your next corporate event.
The conference, with over 400 delegates, was held at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Whistler. The carnival-themed supplier show on the first evening was a great way to start a busy few days.
The planning team thought of every special detail: axe throwing, bull riding, zip lining, and champagne on a gondola up to Whistler Mountain were just a few of the many highlights.
Our team provided not only the event photography throughout the conference, we also had a studio set up so where delegates could have their professional headshots taken. Conferences are a great time to have everyone update their professional profiles with new headshots. These headshots were stylized with our signature black and white treatment.
On the final night, we provided our luxury photo booth experience with photographers, custom photo folders, and 5”x7” print enlargements.

Simple Steps to Amazing Company Headshots:
Convenient On-Location Photo Shoot: For groups of any size, our team will arrange an on-location photo shoot with all the benefits of our professional studio. We bring your choice of backdrop colour and our flattering studio lighting. We can also use the environmental background at your location.
Easy Online Scheduling: Once you’ve selected your photo shoot date, we’ll send you a custom online scheduling website link for your company. Share this link with everyone who needs to participate in the photo shoot and we’ll take care of the rest. Each person participating signs up for the time slot of their choice. They can easily reschedule their time slot if needed.
Headshot Guidance: We’ll also send you an information page to share with your company with tips on what to wear and how to prepare for amazing headshots.
Smooth Sailing: On the day of the photo shoot, our specialized high-volume workflow allows us to move through large groups of people quickly in about 2-3 minutes per person. Our stylist will help with stray hairs and clothing lint so each person is looking their best. If your package includes professional retouching, each participant will have the chance to select their favourite headshot for retouching immediately after their appointment.
File Naming: If you are using these headshots internally, our file naming system will make your life easier. You many not know everyone’s name in a large company, so our system attaches names right to the headshot files.
Easy Delivery: 1-2 weeks after the photo shoot, we’ll deliver a complete gallery to you with all of the proof images and all of the professionally retouched images each person selected. We’ll also send out individual emails to each participant with their own headshots. This means that you don’t have to worry about distributing the files afterwards.
